DerbyCon : Finish Line

Thank you to our DerbyCon Sponsors:

Welcome to DerbyCon 9.0. This will be the ninth year running and at a brand new location at the Marriott Louisville.

This site is currently under construction for DerbyCon 9.0 preparedness. We will have more information soon as we start to fill out the site. Look forward to seeing everyone at DerbyCon 9.0 (2019).

The idea of DerbyCon started in a pizza shop in Louisville after a few of us thought how awesome it would be to create a conference in Louisville Kentucky. The 4th street live area was awesome and we had been to so many conferences that we felt we could make one where everyone was welcome. DerbyCon has and continues to be a conference put together and run by awesome people in the security industry and by its attendees. We believe that DerbyCon is a central location for everyone to come share their research – hang with friends – and meet new ones. We hope to see you this year!

Check out our video from last years DerbyCon “Evolution” held at the Marriott in 2018. It’s an amazing time and this year will be even better.

44Con Workshop by @mintynet (UK)

Car Hacking Village – CAN bus basics with hands on fuzzing

The ‘Car Hacking Village’ has PD0 a ‘CAR in a box’ which is most of the ECU components from a Peugeot 208. This is configured so that all the main dials on the vehicle work, Speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge and temp gauge. This will allow attendees if they get through the fuzzing part access to a complete vehicle to hack.

The workshop will consist of a short presentation on the history of CAN bus, the physical layer, the speeds, data format, message id’s. The attendees will then have access to sets of instrument cluster (hopefully 10-12 sets) to fuzz to try to work out which messages cause which parts of the cluster to work. Each cluster set will include a can bus adapter that can be used for the fuzzing.

Ian Tabor

Network / security architect that has a passion for car hacking, found vulnerabilities in his own car and also private Car bug bounties. Now runs Car Hacking Village UK and is part of the team behind CHV at defcon.

ROOTCON - R13

ROOTCON

ROOTCON was founded back in 2008, the word ROOTCON is derivatives from the two words root (a unix super-user) and con as conference.

The inception of ROOTCON was inspired due to the lack of legit security / hacking conference in the Philippines, how the conference is run is fully inspired from the worlds largest hacking conference in the world which is DEF CON, like DEF CON, ROOTCON controls and minimize product pitching from its sponsors which gives a hell of a boredom to its attendees. To maintain it's high-caliber talks, ROOTCON screens its speakers and topics through the Call For Papers.

Like any other conference, ROOTCON also hosts mind-boggling hacker games such as Capture The Flag, Semprix' Mysterybox and of course the infamous Hacker Jeopardy.

ROOTCON has maintained it's posture as the neutral grounds for the hacking community, both underground and the enterprise, we have been successful in keeping access to the conference affordable for the hacking community. This balance between content and affordability is the reason ROOTCON has been consistently a huge success.

BSides Cymru (Wales, UK)

This year, we are hosting the event in the Tramshed and Tramshed Tech in Cardiff, with around 300 expected attendees! These 300 attendees across at least two speaker tracks, including a keynote stage, as well as a Capture the Flag Challenge, entertainment and other activities. We fully expect the event to be sold out completely!

Keeping up with BSides tradition we are encouraging speakers at all levels to get involved and showcase their topics of interest and expertise. We expect our “Call for Speakers” to attract submissions from seasoned speakers and corporate sponsors, to those wishing to share research, “rookies”, students and those new to the industry. There will be mentorship, support and help for new speakers, especially those entering the industry on offer.

We wanted to make the event free for everyone but, unfortunately, we have limited space and are worried that people would grab tickets just because they could, so we decided we had to charge. Entry price is just £25 and, like previous years, in return for your money you’ll get a goody bag with all sort of cool stuff. These are some of the things we’ve given out so far:
